lyrics

The sweet and innocent maid from the town of Füssen is bid by the elusive and eccentric Graf Ludwig to replace his last girl-servant who mysteriously and inexplicably disappeared, feared dead. Upon entering the courtyard of the castle tucked into the Alps’ foothills, Anja smells an unfamiliar stench and senses the presence of many fleeting shapes whilst thousands of unseen eyes trace her every move. The letter, written by an ancient hand, instructs her to her quarters whence she should begin her duties. At dusk, whilst sweeping in the eastern wing, the wall behind her creeks open and the cobwebs shiver in the phantom breeze.

And the Raven flies high in the sky
It's his black flight
It's his dark flight of doom

Through the door she passes into a dimly lit stairwell. Down, down, down she goes and in the dark, the creaking of the wooden steps weakens her naive notion of curiousity. She reaches the crypt and with a strip torn from her peasant dress she proceeds into this dismal cavern. The stench of death almost overcomes her as she reaches an ornate coffin which shimmers in the glow of four and twenty candles. Waves of fear and doubt sweep across the Fräulein. Horrified she regards the lid slide slowly back and Graf Ludwig opens his yellow eyes to meet her all-too-inquisitive gaze.

And the Raven flies high in the sky
It's his black flight
It's his dark flight of doom
